Dear Tatsuya and Friends of Tochigi Conservation Corps

The Corps Network, the member organization of the Service and Conservation Corps in the United States of America, applauds the creation of the Tochigi Conservation Corps, and congratulates Tatsuya Tsukamoto and those many others who have been part of the effort to establish the Corps.

As the young Corpsmembers of Tochigi Conservation Corps become caretakers of the environment, they join others across the globe who believe it is their responsibility and their honor to make our planet a more beautiful, healthy place.
Conservation Corps are an international model, engaging young men and women in nations around the world: from Mexico to Australia, from England to Afghanistan to New Zealand, from Chile to Italy.  In the United States, over 26,000 Corpsmembers from over 140 Service and Conservation Corps serve their communities and the environment each year.  Now that it is established, the activities of the Tochigi Conservation Corps will serve to guide similar work in other countries.

The Corps Network looks forward to having the Tochigi Conservation Corps as a member of The Corps Network and hopes we can work together in the future, as we are both part of the worldwide family of Service and Conservation Corps.

EarthCorps Executive Director Steve Dubiel氏

Dear Friends of Tochigi Conservation Corps,

In the 1930’s, FDR created the Civilian Conservation Corps to provide employment to young people during the Great Depression while at the same time making enormous contributions to communities across the United Sates.

Since the CCC, conservation corps programs continue to provide innovative solutions to community needs while providing important work and life experience to young people from all backgrounds.  The corps movement has spread far beyond the US to countries including Afghanistan, New Zealand, the Philippines, and beyond.  Each corps is uniquely structured to meet local needs.

I am thrilled to see the dream of a Japan Conservation Corps become a reality with the launch of the Tochigi Conservation corps in 2009.  The Tochigi Conservation Corps opens a new chapter in the corps movement and will undoubtedly provide young people and communities across Japan with great opportunity.

Shortly after joining EarthCorps, a Seattle-based nonprofit organization, as Executive Director in 1999 I had the opportunity to meet Tatsuya Tsukamoto.  Among a growing EarthCorps alumni network of more than 800 young adults from more than 65 countries worldwide, Tatsuya stands out for his thoughtfulness, his passion, and to his commitment to translating the dream of a Japan Conservation Corps into reality with the launch of the Tochigi Conservation Corps.

Plans for the Tochigi Conservation Corps are well thought out and based on years of research by Tatsuya as well as a team of season NPO and government leaders who have advised this process.  I look forward with great anticipation to the launch of the Tochigi Conservation Corps and to the positive change that it will create for young people and the community which they serve.

I wish the Tochigi Conservation Corps much success and a bright future.
